St. Martin School Board members last week approved changes to the district’s self-funded group health plan that will spread almost $1.2 million in increased expenses among system resources and higher premiums for employees and retirees.

Parents with children in the parish’s public schools can scratch August off as a possible vacation month this summer. The 2015-16 school calendar approved last week calls for classes to begin on Thursday, Aug. 6.
That’s five days earlier than the Aug. 11 start of the 2014-15 session.

Magnolia park will be the site of a new disc golf course if District 1 Councilman Mike Fuselier’s proposal is accepted. At the April 6 City Council meeting, Fuselier discussed the plan with council members, all of whom seemed receptive to the idea.
