Parks Middle student will study dance in Los Angeles

Journee Sonyé Mitchell, 11, daughter of Vernita and Solinsky Mitchell of Parks, seen here with famed dancer and choreographer Debbie Allen.

Journee was the Baby Lion in Allen’s production of “Pepito’s Story,” which ran for five days at the Manship Theatre in Baton Rouge.

She will be attending Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles this summer.

A long-time student at St. Martin Academy of Fine Arts, Journee has appeared on the Carnival Cruise Elation and Downtown Disney.

Her grandparents are Gail Mitchell and Margie Potier of St. Martinville and Albert Potier of Parks.

Debbie Allen is known for her work with "Fame," "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," "That's So Raven" and more.
