Joan Jett & The Blackhearts: Unvarnished

Joan Jett has been doing her thing since the ‘70s. She has a sound, a style, and a creative genius that no one has been able to duplicate.

So, why change? If you have your own way of delivering great songs, why change? She puts it all out there.

Joan Jett brings the great guitar sound and of course the attitude to each and every album she puts out. Unvarnished is no different.

Unvarnished is her first new album in seven years. And it does not disappoint.

For Joan Jett, it is business as usual. The first song on the album is “Any Weather.” It has a pop-meets-power feel to it. Jett’s voice is as strong and moving as ever.

She moves into her power mode on “TMI.” I like “Soulmates to Strangers.” The guitar work on this cut was amazing! No one can tell a story like Joan Jett.

On “Fragile” she gives a clear warning to people wanting to hang on to a loved one. The song “Everybody Needs a Hero” was really strong. It is the last cut on the album, but has a special warmth in it.

Joan Jett has still got the voice and attitude that defined her over all these years. Every one of the songs on the new album are unique and fresh.

Ever since I heard Joan Jett’s song “I Love Rock and Roll,” I have been a fan of this lady rocker’s style.

I believe she has hit the jackpot again with Unvarnished. She has always been able to say what she has to say and get to the point without dragging it out. She delivers in a style that only Joan Jett can do.

This finished product shines.
