Butte La Rose et Les Entourage

Bonjour!

The trio Cadien “Pat, Nat and Boo” played at the French Quarters in New Orleans last week Commemorating the Bicentennial of the Louisiana Supreme Court 1813-2013. This all happened at the Historic New Orleans Collection, 410 Charles St. Warren Perrin, chairman of the Francophone Section, was in charge. Handsome poster by Barbara Baldwin is a collector’s item.

Present were about 100 judges and attorneys from around the state to celebrate. A few of the attorneys we played for in Destin, Fla., was there, too, and again danced to our music.

Warren organized this event like he did the Marine Corp Bicentennial last year celebrating their 230-plus year anniversary at the Convention Center. And this year he initiated Gov. Jindal to declare Nov. 29 Acadian Day in Louisiana. There will be an official proclamation on display at the Acadian Museum in Erath. I saw on the news the new Cajun license plates is available for purchase in Breaux Bridge.

St. Agnes Healthcare and Rehab sponsored and treated us seniors to a buffet treat at Buck and Johnny’s Restaurant in Breaux Bridge in October. That was a very kind gesture to us. Entertaining us was an amazing magician. The food was delicious. Don and Shirley Ackers joined us. Every one knows Mavis Fruge from Arnaudville. She was there also and is very dedicated to our French culture and organized the French Table at NuNu’s monthly Phone is (337) 754-9898. You don’t have to speak perfect French to join in, be interested and give it your best shot and those French speaking locals will guide you. Dispatcher for the sheriff Lawrence Guidry sat at our table. I wonder if he realized he was the only man at the table. Joke!

My sister-in-law, Drucilla Robin, is a resident at St. Agnes going through rehab from a stroke she had last year. Thank God for these rehab facilities. I do know patients who have gone there to recuperate after a surgery. Best and safest with excellent care!

Turned cold this week so I pulled out an old blue Denham coat I bought at the Simon Pharmacy back about 1985. I’d gone with a load to Jasper, Mo., but I had not brought a coat with me. I was cold. I had eyed that coat at Simon’s so when I returned after that load I told Lucy Angelle who was working there I came to buy it, it made lots of trips with me.

I figured it was time to pull out the new gas weed-eater my kids gave me earlier this year. I did cut in the woods behind my camp which is my back yard. I wear boots so the powerful string does not cut my toes and plus I wear safety glasses. That booger is powerful and good to use.

Went to Dr. Cordova for a follow up and met up with Johnny Broussard. He instantly started talking and I answered him au français. He said he does not talk very well in French and that he tries and wants to. I told him about Mavis and NuNu’s. That goes for anyone who is interested in learning. Never too old and never too late! Also there to see the good doctor was Dorothy Charles and although we’d never met, the three of us talked like we’d known each other forever. C’est tes nice.

Visited with Shirley Poche after church Sunday and laughed at the sign on her wall reading “I am so tired I don’t know if I found a new rope or did I lose my horse.”

Y’all say hey to Cathryn Poche. Santa Claus is coming to town!
