Baja St. Martin
It has been soggy, damp, gloomy and downright wet over here lately. The sun shone briefly the other day and it was heavenly, but didn’t last long.
Happy to say that the mosquito sprayer has been passing regularly and I can now actually sit outside in relative comfort. This morning it is very foggy on the river and actually getting more so. I can barely see the houses across the river. It’s a strange feeling to hear a door slam, maybe a faint voice, a dog barking and a flashing light on a school bus but cannot see any of the sources.
The next Food for Seniors in Baja St. Martin will be on Nov. 12. This is double-box time and the commodities won’t be back until January, so please don’t forget to come.
I did not see it, but I understand that Grover Angelle was on TV not long ago. Not sure what the occasion was other than the outstanding fact that Grover is in his late 80s and still working for the sheriff. He doesn’t seem to age much. We always look forward to his visit here.
On Nov. 17 we will hold our second-of-the-month bingo in the Belle River center. From 10 a.m. until noon. This time a representative from Humana will bring a cake which would technically be for November birthdays, but since we’ve never celebrated any birthdays the entire year before, we’ll consider this one for all.
We (my helpers and I) decided that we’d like to have a Christmas social potluck on that same day so on Tuesday, Nov. 17, we’ll play bingo until about 11 a.m. or so, then have potluck lunch and top it off with birthday cake. Come, bring senior friends, play bingo with us and enjoy the celebration. I will notify all my Food for Senior friends, who are all COA members anyway, and make sure they know they’re invited. Should be fun. I hope lots come.
We had a good turnout at the Nov. 3 bingo. Not the most we’ve ever had, but several couples told us ahead they had doctor visits that day.
It’s a small world when you get to be a senior with medical problems. Today, when my husband and I were leaving one doctor, we passed a Belle River couple awaiting their turn. Most of my doctors are in Baton Rouge, a circumstance primarily because a dear friend who is a physician sent me there when I was first diagnosed with cancer. I just continued to go there, although most of my friends go to Houma or Thibodaux.
Fortunately, I don’t have to go to B.R. often because I do so hate driving in all that traffic. In the space of six months or a year when I have an appointment, there is sure to be some major road work on the interstate with new exits or old ones blocked or an accident. Thank goodness I don’t have to go often.
It is unusually warm today and I must have watched the wrong weather channel because I wore a long-sleeved shirt and long pants. When I got home from errands it was in the 80s so I put the A/C on at once. Now, believe it or not, before the rains begin again as I hear they’re supposed to, I need to mow at least one yard.
October for Stephensville Elementary was jam-packed with activities. This month, November is the opposite extreme. Aside from a snack sale or two, there is not much of anything happening until Nov. 23 when a week’s vacation for Thanksgiving begins.
I don’t think I’ll be doing much celebrating this year although some of my family may come for a visit. Anyway, have a Happy Thanksgiving all and I hope you can be together with family.
