Cecilia 2-0 after blasting Vikings

Lafayette – The Bulldogs scored three times through the air and twice on the ground while limiting Northside to a single second quarter touchdown on their way to a 33-6 victory last Friday.
The second win of the young season marks the first time since 2009 that the ’Dogs open with a 2-0 worksheet.
While workhorse running back Raymond Calais delivered two TDs and 138 yards on 19 carries, it was senior quarterback Landon Roberts who sparked the Cecilia offense. He threw for 177 yards and three scores, completing 6-of-11 passes without an interception.
Senior receivers Rusty Robin and Kenya Dartez had three catches apiece, with two TDs for Robin and one for Dartez.
The potent Bulldog attack finished with 400 yards and 21 first downs while the Cecilia defense limited the Viking ground game to 52 yards, claimed two turnovers and notched seven sacks.
Cecilia scored on its first possession, with Roberts hitting Robin for the 16-yard TD to cap an 8-play, 68-yard drive. Tanner Olivier added the PAT.
Northside got its biggest play of the night early in the second stanza when QB Markaylon Boyd connecting with Lenox Pierre for a 54-yard pickup to the Cecilia 3. Raleigh Robinson took it in from there but the PAT kick failed and Northside trailed 7-6.
It took the Bulldogs just five plays to strike again, with Dartez getting the TD on a 39-yard pass from Roberts.
Roberts put Cecilia back deep into Northside territory minutes later with a 39-yard strike to Robin, and Calais got his first touchdown from 5 yards out to boost the Bulldogs into a 21-6 halftime lead.
The Bulldog defense set up both of Cecilia’s second half scores.
Early in the third period Kale Boudreaux recovered a Viking fumble near the CHS 40. Three plays later Robin got his second TD reception on a 37-yard pass from Roberts.
Later in the period Noah Livings picked off a Boyd pass and returned it 90 yards. But the return was nullified by a penalty. That didn’t slow the Bulldog attack and five plays later Calais ran it in from the 13 for the game’s final score.
The Bulldogs return home this Friday, hosting the 2-0 Crowley Gents who defeated Westlake 34-3 last week.
