Anemic offense dooms Breaux Bridge Tigers

Breaux Bridge – A swarming Notre Dame defense that claimed three turnovers and shut down Breaux Bridge’s rushing game boosted the visiting Pioneers to a 20-0 shutout win here last Friday.
Ironically, it was The Bridge’s first shutout since a 3-0 loss to Notre Dame in week 2 of the 2013 season.
The Tigers managed only one first down, and that didn’t come until late in the third quarter. Breaux Bridge had minus yardage on the ground and finished with just 52 yards net offense as five different ball carriers were held for negative yards.
Ruben Hypolite, seeing his first action of the young season, accounted for 23 yards on 13 carries.
Notre Dame notched its first touchdown on an 80-yard run by Justin Guidry late in the opening period.
The Pioneer defense accounted for the next score when a lateral by BB QB Drake Guidry went awry and ND linebacker Shea Zaunbrecher scooped up the ball and rumbled 6 yards into the end zone to boost the Pios into a 14-0 halftime lead.
Notre Dame wrapped up the scoring and nailed down the win early in the third period when quarterback Joe Faulk went 21 yards for the touchdown.
Breaux Bridge was unable to cash in on four Notre Dame fumbles, including two in the final period.
The Tigers once again relied on two quarterbacks during the contest. Senior Drake Guidry finished 8-for-18 with a pick for 58 yards and suffered one sack.
Sophomore Julian Leon was 1-for-7 with an interception for 11 yards and was sacked twice.
They spread their completions to five different receivers, with Hypolite (2 catches for 33 yards) and Xavrian Antoine (2-for-15) leading the way.
The Tigers make their first road trip of the 2015 season this Friday, traveling to Rayne to meet the 0-2 Wolves who fell to St. Louis 27-19 last week.
