Breaux Bridge falls to strong Carencro team

Breaux Bridge – The undefeated Carencro Bears jumped out to an early lead on their way to a 35-14 victory over Breaux Bridge last Friday.
Relying primarily on a bruising running attack that chewed up 266 yards, Carencro scored in every quarter. Treylon Barnaba got the first of his two touchdowns on a 6-yard run to open the scoring.
Breaux Bridge fumbled the ball away on its first play following the kickoff and the Bears took quick advantage when QB Carl Randal hit Eric Tolivour with a 29-yard TD pass that put Carencro into a 14-0 first quarter lead.
The Bears stretched the margin to 21-0 in the second period and seemed to have the game well in control.
But the Tigers rallied, striking for two scores before intermission.
Malik LeBlanc capped a nice drive with a one-yard plunge and then Peyton Broussard intercepted Randal to put the Tigers in business.
Sophomore QB Cole Mouton took quick advantage of the turnover, finding freshman Dartravien Girod open for a 14-yard touchdown and the score was a more manageable 21=14 at intermission.
But the second half belonged to the Bears who added a third quarter touchdown by Kendarious Poullard and a fourth period score by Barnaba.
Logan Bossier led the Breaux Bridge ground game with 57 yards on 12 carries while Mouton, who replaced Julian Leon early in the game, completed 12-of-18 passes for 104 yards with on interception.
Mouton spread the ball around, using five different receivers. Tyrick Davis led with four catches for 45 yards.
The Tigers open District 5-4A play this Friday at St. Martinville.
