Velma Mae P. Thibodeaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Velma Mae Poirier Thibodeaux, 71, who passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Tuesday, and continue on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Rev. David Broussard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Connie Poirier and Carol Darbonne. Gift Bearers will be Jackie Gary and Casey Nugent.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Velma enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and playing with her dog, Zeus. She was known by many as the “entertainer.” Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter and great grandchildren, whom she loved unconditionally.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Roy Thibodeaux of Breaux Bridge; her son, Leroy Joseph Thibodeaux of Breaux Bridge; her daughter, Sonya T. Buckner of Breaux Bridge; a granddaughter, Amber Olita Buckner Wiltz and husband Timothy of Breaux Bridge; two great-grandchildren, Averi Olita Wiltz and Paxton Lee Wiltz; two godchildren, Michael Poirier of Loreauville, and Warren Poirier of Breaux Bridge; and two sisters-in-law, Leona L. Poirier of Cypress Island and Antonia L. Poirier of Arnaudville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Olita Guilbeau Poirier; her son-in-law, Charles Lee Buckner II; and four brothers, Wilfred, Ray Joseph, Wilbert and Donald Poirier.
Pallbearers will be Lee Roy Thibodeaux, Leroy Joseph Thibodeaux, Timothy Wiltz, Michael Poirier, Warren Poirier and Mark Poirier.
Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Thibodeaux, Ryan Thibodeaux and August Darbonne.
