Lieut. Larry Anthony Fontenette

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Lieut. Larry Anthony Fontenette, 72, who passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Friday, at Notre Dame Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski, SVD, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Larry honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and was currently employed with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Department for the last 13 years as a Lieutenant. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Peter Claver. Larry had an immense fondness for cars, especially his Corvette. He enjoyed cutting his grass, having coffee while reading his paper, searching the web, watching car shows, visiting with family and friends, and taking his afternoon nap in his favorite La-Z-Boy recliner. Larry loved his family and especially loved showing-off his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to his friends, while telling them that, “They were the best!”
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Diane Bernard Fontenette; sons, Brian and Corey Fontenette, both of St. Martinville; his brothers, Roland Fontenette of Jonesboro, James Fontenette of New Iberia, Dennis Fontenette of Alabama and Craig Fontenette of St. Martinville; his sisters, Gilda Ben and husband George of Lake Charles, Rose Barras and husband Ronald of Killeen, Texas, Sharon Simon and husband Alexander of Carencro, Marsha Batiste and husband Carlos of St. Martinville, Melissa Decuir and husband Tony of St. Martinville, and Crystal Fontenette of St. Martinville; his grandchildren, Derek Fontenette of Alexandria, Chance and Courtney Porter of Abbeville, Nyla Fontenette and Navione Fontenette; and his great-grandchildren, Layla Fontenette and Emory Fontenette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph “Tatoot” and Alberta Savoy Fontenette; his daughter, Jenny Rebecca Fontenette; and his sister, Claudia Fontenette.
Pallbearers will be Brian, Craig and Derek Fontenette, Jamal Batiste, Shaylor Bernard and Jeremy Bernard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy, Roland and Dennis Fontenette, Justin and Jason Nelson, Marvin Jackson and Ernest Kay.
