Richard H. Chavis

Memorial Services Celebrating the life of Richard H. Chavis were conducted on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, in the Chapel of Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Road Broussard. The family received visitors beginning at 4 p.m. Memorial services began at 6 p.m. with Father Francis Fontenot officiating.
Mr. Chavis entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at his residence in St. Martinville. He was born November 2, 1955, in Lafayette.
He was a true lover of the outdoors. Richard raised his own farm animals, chickens, ducks, pigs, geese and guineas. He enjoyed farming and driving trucks. Helping others and making everyone happy was a natural part of Richard’s personality. He enjoyed cooking outdoors things like gumbo, cracklings and boiling crawfish. Time with family and friends were truly good times in his life. When you would see Richard he would always have an adult beverage in his hand. His loyalty and kindness to others will be deeply missed.
Richard Chavis leaves to mourn his passing one daughter, Jessica and son-in-law Zachery Alfred of Breaux Bridge; two sisters, Pearly Chavis Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Pearly Chavis Champ of Lafayette; and one brother, John Chavis of Opelousas. He also leaves a legacy to be cherished with four grandchildren, Deja DeRouen, Destiny DeRouen, Nehemiah DeRouen and Jaehlen DeRouen, all of Breaux Bridge.
The family would like to thank everyone for the support given to them during the last several months of Richard’s journey. A special thank you to all the staff of Community Hospice of Lafayette for all the care and compassion provided to our loved one.
