Ophelia Jean Batiste Landry

Breaux Bridge – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2016, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Ophelia Jean Batiste Landry, 83, who passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at her residence.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 7 a.m. on Monday and continued until 10:30 a.m. A rosary was prayed at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
Rev. Brian Webre officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment followed at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge.
Ophelia enjoyed participating in Bingo at church and playing cards, and she loved her cat, Chester. During Ophelia’s 83 years of life with us, she was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Earl Landry Jr. (Patricia); daughters, Mathilda Landry (Vincent Alexander), Brenda Landry (Sylvester Hopkins), Linda Landry and Theresa Landry, all of Breaux Bridge, and Bernadine Stevens (Floyd) of Lafayette; sister, Aza Mae John; 15 grandchildren; host of great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Wilton and Morris Landry; sisters-in-law, Alice Mae Alexander, Eloise Landry, Mary Batiste and Alice Batiste; and four godchildren, Darrell Alexander and Robert Batiste, both of Breaux Bridge, Darleen Price of Houston, Texas, and Angelina Charles of Shreveport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Landry Sr. of 62 years; parents, Matilda Charles Batiste and Homer Batiste Sr.; five brothers, Joseph, Robert, Homer Jr., Donald and Clement Batiste; and ten sisters, Emma Landry, Rose Landry, Rosie Batiste, Anna Louise Lewis, Rita Coleman, Mildred Lewis, Alice Wallace, Bertha McGee, Amae Celestine and Augustine Mitchell.
Pallbearers were Lee Landry Sr., Theodore Landry, Kendrick Landry, Cedrick Landry, Abraham Landry and Corey Landry.
Honorary pallbearers were Norris Landry, Wilton Landry, Bradley Landry, Sterling Soloman, Shannon Landry, and Earl Landry Jr.
A special thanks to NSI Hospice, Dr. John Khorsandi, our loving aunt, Aza Mae John, and her nephew, Clarence Celestine, for the love and care that they all provided to our dear mother. Also a heartfelt thanks to her six loving children, who cared for her day and night until our Lord called her home to be with her husband, Earl.
