Maria Sanchez Belaire
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Bernard Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, for Maria Sanchez Belaire, 87, who passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Iberia Medical Center.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and continued on Tuesday at 8 a.m. until time of service
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Monday by Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert.
Father Brian Webre officiated at the service. Gift bearers were Ethan Delcambre, Raven Owens and Davanee Dugan.
Interment followed at St. Bernard #2 Cemetery in Breaux Bridge.
Maria was a people person who loved taking care of everyone especially her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed going to the Casino, playing Bingo, gardening and cooking. The family would like to thank the Staffs of Consulata Nursing Home, Heart of Hospice especially Melody and Iberia Medical Center for their compassionate care.
She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Z. Poirier and her husband Tommy of New Iberia; grandchildren, Walter “Pokey” Dugan, Brandon Dugan, Aaron Dugan, Holly D. Delcambre and husband Scott; great-grandchildren, Brandy Owens and husband Raven, Monica Dugan, Brittany Perez, Davanee Dugan, Kylie Smith, Aaiken Dugan, Ethan Delcambre, Evan Delcambre and Makynli Delcambre; great-great-grandchildren, Kamryn Gondron, Collin Gondron, Baby Bentley, Natalie Perez, Aubrie Perez and Alex Perez; step sons, Milton Mouton and wife Nellie, Clifford Mouton and wife Mary, Clifton Mouton and wife Paulette, Wilfred Mouton, Raymond Mouton and wife Scarlett, and William Dugas and wife Marie; step daughters, Jenny Abshire and husband Adam, and Marjorie “Margie” Daigle and husband Ray; step daughters-in-law, Sheila Usie Belaire and Liz Mouton Vance; 35 step grandchildren and 47 step great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Belaire, step sons, Darrell “Popeye” Belaire and Edward Mouton Jr.; step daughters, Lorena Landry and Mildred Pontiff; sisters-in-law, Jean Belaire, Nora Belaire, Cecile Eddy and Christy Belaire, brothers-in-law, Ward Belaire, Joseph Desire Belaire, Michel Belaire, Andrew Belaire Jr., John Belaire, Amede Belaire, LeeRoy Belaire and Sidney Crochet; and niece, Pamela Belaire.
Pallbearers were Walter “Pokey” Dugan, Brandon Dugan, Aaron Dugan, Scott Delcambre, Wilfred “Poochie” Mouton and William Dugas.
Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
