Mabel T. Romero
St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks for Mabel T. Romero, 70, who passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in Breaux Bridge.
Visiting hours were observed from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday and continued on Friday at 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday by Sister Ameline Theriot.
Rev. Donovan Labbé officiated at the Funeral Mass. Con-Celebrant was Fr. Ed. Degeyter. Scripture readings were read by Carolyn Blanchard and Sandra LaHaye. Gift Bearers were Jensie Borel and Tina Bearb.
Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Mabel enjoyed cooking her favorite Cajun dishes and baking her own secret recipes, such as her famous chocolate chip cookies and her graham cracker pralines, and sharing them with her friends in the community. She also enjoyed tending to her rose bushes, shopping, reading, and working crossword puzzles. She loved watching the Saints football team, regardless if they were winning or losing the game, while wearing her favorite Saints shirt. She will always be remembered for her kindness and her infectious smile that would bring joy to everyone she met in her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Donnie Romero; her son, Douglas James Romero of St. Martinville; her daughter, Angela Borel and husband Marty of Catahoula; her granddaughter, Jensie Borel of Catahoula; and her sister, Cynthia T. Johnson of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by parents, Maurice and Martha Champagne Theriot; and her sisters, Anna Belle T. Huval, Verlie T. Boudreaux and Anna Louise T. Patin Huval.
Pallbearers were Harold Blanchard, Bryan Patin, Tommy Huval, Dale Huval, Jarrod Romero and Tony Romero.
Honorary pallbearers were Douglas Romero and Marty Borel.
