John ‘J.B.’ Burton LaGrange

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church for John “J.B.” Burton LaGrange, 76, who passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Opelousas General Hospital.
Visiting hours were observed from 2 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday at 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in Arnaudville. A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Rev. Brian Taylor officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Rachel Olivier.
Interment followed at St. John Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville.
J.B. was a tug boat captain for 59 years and was a dedicated worker. Over the years he was employed by Williams-McWilliams – “G.A.”, Tidewater - Elefante Grande, Leoparod Grande, El Mulo Grande, El Jaguar Grande, Lumber Company - “Lady Cheryl,” Frenchman’s Wilderness as a maintenance man, and he was currently working for Stallion - “General.”
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always provided for his family – the word, “No” was not in his vocabulary. J.B. never met a stranger and was a practical joker who enjoyed entertaining everyone.
J.B. was a handyman, a “Jack-of-All-Trades” who could fix anything he laid his eyes on. He had numerous hobbies which included fishing, hunting, camping, cooking outdoors, and going dancing with the love of his life for the past 55 years, his wife, Genevieve. J.B. will long be remembered for his kindness and the joy he brought to the lives of everyone.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Genevieve Taylor LaGrange of Arnaudville; two sons, Wayne “T-Wayne” Joseph LaGrange and wife Leigh of Youngsville, and Kevin LaGrange and wife Cathy of Lafayette; two sisters, Lucy Hardy and Odile Thibodeaux and husband Percy, all of Arnaudville; three grandchildren, Madison LaGrange of New Orleans, and Christopher LaGrange and Matthew LaGrange of Lafayette; two step grandchildren, Nikki Thibodeaux and Kesha Quebedeaux of Lafayette; and four step great-grandchildren, Tylynn Leopaul, Jhaice Leopaul, Kaynon Powell and Adrianna Powell, all of Lafayette.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Regina Olivier LaGrange; and two brothers, Joseph and Harry Lee LaGrange.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Arnaudville was in charge of arrangements.
