Ishmael F. Halphen Jr.

New Iberia – A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Ishmael F. “Ish” Halphen, 88, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter was the celebrant. Mr. Halphen was laid to rest with his wife at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends was held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Sunday from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m., with the Rosary at 5 p.m. The funeral home reopened on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Halphen passed away at 9:04 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Mr. Halphen, known by family and friends as “Ish,” was a Navy Veteran, worked with Peoples National Bank for 40 years, owned multiple businesses, and worked at the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office until he was 80 years of age. Some of his pastimes included watching football, and playing craps. He will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his five children, Brenda H. Gonsoulin, Susan H. Herring and her husband Charles “Charlie,” all of St. Martinville, Dennis Halphen and his wife Debbie, Carolyn H. Boudreaux and her husband Ronnie of New Iberia and Joellyn H. LaPorte and her husband Terry of St. Martinville; his 12 grandchildren, Richie Gonsoulin Jr., Craig Gonsoulin, Ryan Gonsoulin, Monique Fremin, Geneé Berard, Michelle Boudreaux, Ashley Halphen Lipari, Elliot Halphen, Mindy Perioux, Shawn Perioux, Natalie LaPorte Oubre and Jenna LaPorte; ten great-grandchildren, Zachary Fremin, Morgan Fremin, Lindsay Lormand, William Bujard II, Emma Hoffpauir, CJ Gonsoulin II, Brock Bujard, Luke Jones, Giuliana Lipari and Michael Chad Lipari II.; and his brother, Robert Halphen.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anna Belle Dugas Halphen; his parents; his siblings, Margaret Newell, Myrtle Duhon, Patrick Halphen, Owen Halphen and Durand Halphen; and his grandson, Brock Anthony Boudreaux.
Pallbearers were Richie Gonsoulin Jr., Craig Gonsoulin, Ryan Gonsoulin, Elliot Halphen, Shawn Perioux and Zachary Fremin. Honorary pallbearers were Leo “Boo” Duhon, Craig Gonsoulin II, William Bujard II, Brock Bujard, Luke Jones and Michael Chad Lipari II.
