Brendal ‘B.J.’ L. John

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Brendal “B.J.” Leatell John, 56.
A gathering of family and friends was observed at the funeral home from 7 a. m. until 10 a.m. on Monday. A rosary was prayed at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Rev. Joseph Campion officiated at the Memorial Mass. Scriptures were read by Roxanne Washington. Gift Bearers were Jalen Vavasseur and Jamila Harness.
Inurnment followed at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge.
Brendal Leatell John, also known as “B.J.,” a lifelong resident of Breaux Bridge, died on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. He was born on August 28, 1958, to the union of the late Mary Joyce John and Melvin John Sr. of Breaux Bridge.
Brendal entered the United States Naval Reserve in July 1979 where he served for six years. He was a carpenter and was very skilled at his craft. He loved spending time with family and friends. Brendal always found time to tell one of his life’s stories to make you laugh. He will be greatly missed, but forever remain in our hearts.
Brendal leaves to mourn, one son, Brandon Wiltz of Breaux Bridge; one grandchild, Kingston Wiltz; one sister, Kim (Raymond Jr.) John Vavasseur; two brothers, Brian A. John and Melvin (Rebecca) John Jr., all of Breaux Bridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Joyce John and Melvin John Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Sidney and Vivian Washington; his paternal grandparents, Sidney and Genevieve T. John; and a special friend, Veda H. Harness.
Honorary pallbearers were Jonathan Narcisse, John Washington, Brian John, Melvin John Jr., Raymond Vavasseur Jr., Dr. Tim Glaude, Van Ray Baltazar, Nathan Batiste, Alton Batsite, Eldrick Kmondo and Darren Martinez.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
