Bernice ‘Bee’ L. Guilbeau

Lafayette – A Memorial Mass was held on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 2 p.m. in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Bernice “Bee” L. Guilbeau, 86, who died on Friday, May 15, 2015, at her residence in Lafayette with her family by her side.
Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, officiated the Memorial Mass. Lector was Dr. Craig Broussard. Giftbearers were Phoebe Savoy and Diane Savoy Foley.
A native of Catahoula, and a resident of Lafayette most of her life, Bernice was affectionately known as “Bee” to her family and friends. She retired from Keller’s Bakery after 25 years of dedicated service. In her earlier years, she and her husband operated a movie theater and grocery stores. She also worked retail for many of Lafayette’s downtown general stores. Her joys during her life were bowling, cooking, playing cards with friends, spending time with family, and will best be remembered for the “extra cookie” given to her customers at Keller’s.
She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Merle Breaux Broussard and her husband Dr. Craig Broussard, and Brad Anthony Breaux and his companion Margaret S. Champagne; her granddaughter’s husband, Lloyd King; her great-grandchildren, Grant Garrett (Dana), Joshua Breaux (Cheli), Tyler Broussard (Ashley), Juliette Bechtold (Adam), Catherine Broussard and Paul Broussard; her great-great-grandchildren, Alana Garrett, Jeffrey Paul Breaux and Eden Bechtold; her brother, Gabriel “ToTo” Latiolais; her sister, Lena L. Frederick; 26 nieces and nephews, and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Guilbeau; her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Paul (Patricia “Pat”) Breaux; her infant daughter, Fedora Guilbeau; her grandson, Jeffrey Paul Breaux; her granddaughter, Paula Breaux King; her parents, Alfred and Anita Latiolais; her four brothers, Phermine, Ramie, Claude and Gilbert “Ruben” Latiolais; and her sister, Lucy L. Savoy.
Honorary pallbearers were Brad Breaux, Grant Garrett, Josh Breaux, Tyler Broussard, Paul Broussard, Miguel Savoy, Johnny Frederick, Glenn Savoy, Sherman “Frog” Savoy, Tommy Latiolais, Greg Latiolais and David Savoy.
A Rosary was recited on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 6 p.m. in Martin & Castile’s DOWNTOWN location.
Visitation was observed on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continued on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Special thanks to Dr. Craig Broussard, the staff of Heart of Hospice, especially, Sarah, Chris and Felicia, for the loving care extended to Bee during her time of need.
