St. Martinville – Funeral Services were conducted for Mr. Andie Joseph Pickney, 71, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Greene officiating.
Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Visitation was held from 7 a.m. until the service time on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Union Baptist Church.
The sun rose in St. Martinville on January 1, 1945, bringing with it a new day and a new life. Andie Joseph Pickney was born to the late Winfield Pickney and Ella Guilliam.
Our Lord Jesus Christ’s love and mercy assured Andie that he was safe in his arms when he departed this life on Friday, September 16, 2016, at his residence.
Andie accepted Christ as his personal savior at a very young age. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who participated in the Vietnam War and earned many awards and a Brown Star Medal. Upon returning home, he was a wonderful husband to his dedicated wife, Linda Hypolite, and new daughter, Marilyn Pickney Robertson.
He touched many lives with his encouraging words, very giving heart, and wonderful personality. He lived to share life’s experiences and embrace people with his presence. As an awesome building contractor, he used his ingenuity to create dream homes for the community. He loved fishing, talking with friends, giving to those in need, spending time with his grandsons and great granddaughter, and inspiring everyone to live life to the fullest.
To cherish his memories, Andie leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Pickney; only daughter, Marilyn Pickney-Robertson (Bradford); two grandsons, Chase Anderson Pickney and James Livingston Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Karleigh Pickney; two sisters, Bessie Campbell of Houston, Texas, and Eunice Stanford of Los Angeles, Cal.; and a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law whom he loved very much and who supported him though his journey.
Andie now joins in glory with his parents, Winfield and Ella G. Pickney; and brother, Sanders Pickney.
We are aware that we must accept what we cannot change and have the wisdom to know the difference. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Lord Jesus, we are grateful for the days that you have blessed us with Andie. Knowing that he has left us to be with THE KING is the greatest gift of all. May we all be blessed in the knowledge that Andie was the greatest husband, father, grandfather, and friend that has ever lived.
Pallbearers were Damien Louis Chapman, Marcus Jones, Bernard Mitchell III., Bradford Robertson, Wilbert Hypolite and Kevin Johnson.
