Allen J. Dugas Sr.

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Church in Coteau Holmes for Allen J. Dugas Sr., 73, who passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Camelot of Broussard.
Visiting hours were observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday at 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary was prayed at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Rev. Joseph Padinjarepeedika officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Jaiden Dugas and Candice Resweber. Gift bearers were Amber Dugas, Alyse Dugas and Kayla Dugas.
Interment followed at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Coteau Holmes.
Mr. Dugas was the owner and operator of Louisiana Seafood for 42 years, worked as a superintendent in the sugar industry for 30 years, and served as the Chairman of the Wild Caught Crawfish Task Force.
Allen was actively involved in the community, where he volunteered his time as firefighter with the Coteau Holmes Fire Department and was a head coach for the Catahoula Chargers, a youth football team. He loved music and singing; he actually recorded “The Crawfish Song” with his band, “Allen and the Spinners” who sang for the inaugural Crawfish Festival. He used to race horses as a pastime ... he enjoyed doing that.
Allen will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Tessie Serrette and husband David of Saint Martinville; sons, Jason Dugas and wife Margaret, Mark Dugas Sr. and wife Heidi, and David Dugas and wife Jennifer; his sister, Pat Olivier and husband Gerald; his grandchildren, Josh Serrette and wife Monique, Krista Dugas, M. Jude Dugas Jr. and wife Courtney, Kayla Dugas, Alyse Dugas, Amber Dugas, Max Dugas, Tara Serrette, Jaiden Dugas, Caitlyn Twite and Logan Twite; and his great-grandchildren, Jase Serrette, Joni Serrette, Kyan Batiste and Reece Dugas.
He was preceded in death by parents, Dalton and Rena Lasseigne Dugas; his beloved wife, Geraldine Fremin Dugas; his son, Allen “Lil Al” Dugas Jr.; his in-laws, Ulysse and Elsie Freeman; paternal grandparents, Fernest and Zoe Dugas; maternal grandparents, Clebert and Ora Albert Lasseigne; and step grandmother, Anastasia “Tazie” Lasseigne.
Pallbearers were Jason Dugas, Mark Dugas Sr., David Dugas, Josh Serrette, M. Jude Dugas Jr., Max Dugas and David Serrette.
Honorary pallbearers were Troy Olivier, Orsen Daigle Sr., Richard Daigle, Charlie Romero, J.C. Romero and Gerald Olivier.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
