St. Martinville prepares for Cleanest City contest

St. Martinville – Judges for the Cleanest City Contest will arrive on Wednesday, April 12, and the City of St. Martinville and the St. Martinville Garden Club are busy getting ready,
They are asking everyone to start preparing their lawns, cutting grass, sweeping, painting, spring planting, litter control.
A Trash Bash was held on Saturday, April 1, at the Maison Duchamp. Students and other community volunteers helped with some last minute litter control, painting, planting and touchups in preparation for the contest. All volunteers received T-shirts with the winning slogan and were treated to lunch and live music at Maison de Tours afterwards by the Garden Club.
Kaylin Thibodeaux, a 6th grader at Parks Middle School, won the slogan contest with, “Green city, clean city, My dream city.” A poster contest was held subsequent to the announcement of the winning slogan, where students were asked to design a poster using Kaylin’s slogan.
First place winners in the poster contest are Natali Batiste, Cassidi Bonnet and Said Phothisade from St. Martinville Primary School. Second place was awarded to Ms. Davida’s Special Education Self-contained Class at St. Martinville Primary School. Third place went to Mrs. Nelson’s 2nd grade class at St. Martinville Primary School. Honorable mention went to Cullen Charles and also to Kirsten Trahan, Mrs. Shaw’s 5th grade class, both from St. Martinville Primary. And finally, the most creative entry went to Mrs. Savoy’s 2nd grade class at St. Martinville Primary.
