Albert Champagne

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Albert Champagne, 87, who passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday.
A rosary was prayed at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Rev. Ed Degeyter officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Liz Friedman and Adley Douet. Gift bearers were Lucy Lissard, Christine Wright and Julie LeBlanc.
Interment followed at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Born in Parks to the late Arista and Melanie Douet Champagne, Albert was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. He served as an usher for numerous years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Woodmen of the World. He was a Perpetual Adorer in the Adoration Chapel and attended Mass every Monday at St. Martin Guest Home for many years.
Albert loved gardening and always shared the fruits of his harvest with others. He was a gentle and kind man who enjoyed an optimistic outlook on life. He was a devoted husband, father, and compassionate man who showed kindness towards anyone he would meet. His life was well lived and he was a man well loved by those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Anna Lou Hulin Champagne; one daughter, Charlotte C. Huval and husband Kent; his brother, Adley “Doc” Champagne and wife Patsy; his sister, Ethel C. Huval and husband Bill; and his sister-in-law, Nita H. Champagne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alton “Te Poon” Champagne; and nephews, Marc Champagne and David Huval.
Pallbearers were C.J. Hulin, Harris Hulin, Harry Hulin, Chad Gaudet, Mike Huval, Russell Champagne and Ken Jude Champagne.
Honorary pallbearers were Adley “Doc” Champagne, Bill Huval and Pat Olivier.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mitchell Dugas and his staff, Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home and staff, and also to Bridgeway Hospice for the love and care given during Albert’s time in need.
