Roy was born in a houseboat in the Atchafalaya Basin on June 30, 1938, the eldest of five sons born to Clifton and Eve (Guilbeau) Robin. Roy became a pioneer in the crawfish processing industry. He, along with his brothers, lived by the words their mother instilled in them, “If you want something bad enough and are willing to work hard enough, you can have it.” By living by those exact words, Roy reaped the rewards of his hard work.
Roy quit school in the sixth grade to help his father in his fishing and bait business, catching, cleaning, and selling fish to local restaurants. He worked on the boats and became a captain as soon as he became of age. A number of years later he began working in crawfishing industry, an industry which he had a true passion for.
In 1970 Roy became a partner in Bayou Land Seafood, one of the biggest processing plants in the state. In 1972 Roy bought out his partners and devoted all of his time to his business. Not only did Bayou Land Seafood process crawfish, but Roy later expanded the business to process fish, crabs, shrimp, and alligators, as well. After working 32 years in the seafood processing business, Roy sold Bayou Land Seafood in 2000, not to fully retire, but to spend time fishing his ponds and enjoy time with his wife and his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nettie Joan Robin; daughters, Juanita Robin Guidry and husband Jeffery, and Anna Marie Robin and husband Wallace Vicknair; son, Clifton Joseph Robin; 16 grandchildren, Sedaka, Donavon, Kehia, Stage, Laura, Jennifer, Felicia, Kaylon, James, Roy, Terville, Cassie, Samantha, Simone and Alyssa; 21 great-grandchildren, Breanna McGee, Roman, Braylon, Braxton, Elijah, Sean, Lance, Joseph, Savon, Sedaka II, Nettie, Robert, Bethany, Aubree, Zayne, Bently, Braxton, Delila, Damien, Nathan and Reignie; brothers, Rodney Joseph Robin and wife Marie, Ray Joseph Robin and wife Annie, and Ronald Joseph Robin and wife Gail.
