Marvin E. Brown

Arnaudville – Funeral services were held Monday, October 10, 2016 at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church for Marvin E. Brown, 89, who passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Heart Hospital in Lafayette.
Interment was in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, officiated at the services.
Musical selections were provided by Debbie LeBlanc, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs were Amazing Grace, Taste and See, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, Just A Closer Walk With Thee and Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Mr. Brown was a native of Georgetown, Miss. and a resident of Arnaudville for the past 60 years. He was employed with Western Electric in Lafayette and retired in 1982 with 32 years of service. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church where he was a member of the Altar Society and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. A veteran of the military, Mr. Brown proudly served his country on the U.S.S. Conway during World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 278 and VFW Post 5153
Survivors include one son, Daniel Owen Brown and his wife Rachel of Arnaudville; one daughter, Maria “Row” Brown-Black of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Richard James Black and his wife Ember, Roxanne Nichole Black Mansour and her husband Mina, all of Orange County, Cal., Christy Elizabeth Brown Vidrine and her husband Terry of Arnaudville, Danielle Louise Brown of Cecilia, Daniel Owen Brown II of Alexandria, Tabitha Kitchens Hornsby and her husband Jason of Sunset, Carrie Kitchens Christlieb and her husband Kyle of Arnaudville and Brandy Owens and her husband Jeremy of Gauthier, Miss.; and 13 great-grandchildren, Dakota J. Arnaud, Jacob Owens, Dylan Vidrine, Trystin Vidrine, Laken Owens, Jeremiah Brown, Zola Collins, Harper Black, Lila Owens, Tyler Owens, Maggie Owens, Cora Hornsby, Kathrine Mansour and Alena Vidrine.
He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, the former Dorothy “Dot” Rowan; his parents, Hosea Brown and the former Elizabeth Jane Owen; one brother, Harper T. Brown and his wife Johnnie B.; two sisters, Doris B. Walters and her husband Bill, and Gracie B. Hammonds and her husband Earl; one son-in-law, Edward Dean Black; two step-sisters, Edrian L. Thompkins and Carrie Mae Seals; and one step-brother, Edward Elvin Legett.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home by Beatrice Zerangue and Leatrice Meche.
Visiting hours were observed from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday and continued from 8 a.m. until service time on Monday.
Pallbearers were VFW Representatives. Honorary pallbearers were Dakota J. Arnaud, Terry Vidrine, Jeremiah Brown, Jacob Owens, Dylan Vidrine and Tyler Owens.
