Theta C. Compton

St. Martinville – A Home Going Service will be celebrated for Theta C. Compton 89, the former Theta Iris Charles at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Mallalieu United Methodist Church, St. Martinville, Rev. Valla Johnson Pastor, Rev. Andrew Goff, District Superintendant, New Orleans District, officiating.
She will await the resurrection at Mallalieu United Methodist Church Cemetery, St. Martinville.
A gathering of family and friends will begin 7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and resume at 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
A native of St. Martinville, and resident of New Iberia, she passed at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at her residence.
She was a member of Mallalieu United Methodist Church where she served in the Senior Choir; taught Sunday School and served on many church committees. She worked as an insurance agent selling burial insurance Journet & Bolden Funeral Home. She is most widely recognized as the Head Start Director for over 35 years in Iberia, St. Martin, and Lafayette Parishes. She was member of the Loyalty Chapter No. 133, Order of Eastern Star in St. Martinville, LA., and was a lifetime member of the NAACP.
She leaves to cherish her memory and in God’s care, one son, Woodrow Mays Compton (Lenora) of Alexandria, VA; four daughters, Elva Fay Compton, Violetta Gail Compton, Joycelyn Inez Compton Hill (Bernard “Mickey”) all of New Iberia, and Patsy Ruth Compton Broussard of St. Martinville; a special daughter, Mary Ella Malveaux Simon of New Iberia; one brother, Vernon “Rip” L. Charles of Mamou; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Charles of Mamou, and Leona Chatman Charles, of New Iberia; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She now joins her husband, Woodrow Benedict Compton; her parents, Murphy Charles and Violetta Drake Charles; two brothers, Luther N. Charles and Ercel Charles; one sister, Persophne Myrtle Charles and two great-grandchildren, Kayson and Kailye Hill and one son-in-law, Peter Broussard, Jr.
Active pallbearers will be Jeffery Hill, Jason Hill, Jeremy Hill, Ivory Patton, Peter Murphy Broussard, Regginald Compton and Ryan Compton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon L.Charles, Woodrow M. Compton, Ivory L. Patton and Mickey Hill.
