Carencro – Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel for Mrs. Vashton Leger, 77, the former Rose Marie Jenkins, who passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.
Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, officiated at the services.
Mrs. Leger was a former resident of Lafayette and current resident of Arnaudville.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years Vashton “Roy” Leger of Arnaudville; three sons, Alton Roy Leger of Cecilia, Josh Paul Leger of Many and William Leger and his wife Tiffeny of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; five daughters, Vickie Ann Stelly and her husband Valis of Arnaudville, Brenda Lee Kidder and her husband Terry of Cecilia, Lilly Renee Leger of Arnaudville, Mitchelle Angelle and her husband Jason of Cecilia, and Tina Marie Tribe and her husband Brad of Arnaudville; one daughter in law, Deidre Leger of Walker; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Howard Dirk Leger; her parents, William Jenkins Jr. and the former Lelia Robicheaux; and one brother, Howard Joseph Jenkins.
A rosary was prayed at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Visiting hours were observed from 9 a.m. Tuesday until service time on Tuesday.
Pallbearers were Christopher Simon, Terry Kidder, Phillip Leger, Colby Leger, Holden Barron and Gavin Tribe.
