Shirley Fournet Chappuis

Brevard, N.C. – Shirley Fournet Chappuis passed away on March 18, 2016 in Brevard, N.C. She was born in St. Martinville, La. on December, 16, 1925, to Valsin A. and Mildred (Barnes) Fournet.
Shirley graduated from L.S.U. with a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1946. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald J. Chappuis; and their children, Julie (George) Dear, Nancy Chappuis, David Chappuis, Mary (Mark) Brooker, Jean (Bill) Baltz, Diane (Don) Clemens and Barbara Chappuis; and eight grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Richard S. Fournet; and sister, Elsie Fournet Boriack.
She was predeceased by her parents and sisters, Dorothy Fournet Ford and Una Fournet Daigre.
Shirley led a long and interesting life, having lived in Cairo, Egypt and Edmonton, Canada and enjoyed watching L.S.U. football, reading and especially loved watching the everchanging beauty of “her” mountains. She belonged to The Nature Conservancy, literary clubs, was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church Ladies Guild and volunteered in many organizations.
Shirley and Don retired to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina after traveling extensively around the world.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard, N.C. She will be interred at Western Carolina Cemetery at Black Mountain, N.C.
