John Lanny LeBlanc
Lafayette – Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Genevieve Catholic Church for John Lanny LeBlanc, 96, who died at 2:40 a.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Linda Fuselier and Sarah Brown. Eulogists will be Sarah Brown and Scott Frederick. Giftbearers will be Remy Grossie and Gwen Melancon. Jodi Bollich, organist, will sing for the services, “Amazing Grace,” “Isaiah 49,” “Ave Maria,” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic,”
Survivors include four daughters, Claudette LeBlanc Frederick and her husband Gerald, Susan LeBlanc Brown and her husband Ernest, Linda LeBlanc Fuselier and her husband Todd, and Becky LeBlanc Richard and her husband Jimmy; one son, V.J. LeBlanc; grandchildren, Scott Frederick, Gwen F. Melancon, Sarah Brown, Ross Brown, Nick Richard, Faith Fuselier, Evan Fuselier and Hannah Fuselier; great-grandchildren, Remy Grossie, Cassie and Chloe Felix, Miles Brown, Azalea Brown, Colton Frederick and Cade Frederick; step great-grandchildren, Connor and Alex Melancon; sisters, Viola Dore, Lena Mae LeBlanc, Mildred Devillier and Betty Lee LeBlanc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard LeBlanc and the former Alcidie Guidry; his wife, Anna Belle “Toot” LeBlanc; two brothers, Paul and Jesse LeBlanc; and three sisters, Emma Lou Melancon, Alice Martin and Vilia LeBlanc.
Mr. LeBlanc was born in Cecilia, Louisiana and was a longtime resident of Lafayette. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Deputy with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department for many years. Mr. LeBlanc proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army-Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Post 133 and also a member of the Woodman of the World Lodge 452. Mr. LeBlanc was an avid horseman and a great story teller. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Scott Frederick, Ross Brown, Nick Richard, Clark LeBlanc, Ryan Martin and Wayne Dore. Honorary pallbearer will be V.J. LeBlanc.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Martin & Castille Funeral Home by his daughter, Linda Fuselier.
