Warren J. ‘Chuckit’ Castex
Lafayette – Funeral services were held on Monday, February 15, 2016, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Warren J. Castex, 84, who died on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at River Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette.
Interment was in Calvary Mausoleum.
Reverend Ed Degeyter, was the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services, assisted by Mr. Castex’s Grandson, Reverend Mark Melancon. Lector was Michelle Martin. Giftbearers were Melanie Thibodeaux, Katelyn Martin and Robin Stelly. Musical selections were, “I Call You To My Father’s House,” “Like A Child Rests,” “Ave Maria,” “Shepherd Me O God,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman.”
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Angela Ann Castex; two sons, Kenneth M. Melancon and his wife Barbara Michaud Melancon, and Edmond J. Melancon and his wife Betsy Avison Melancon; four grandchildren, Reverend Mark Melancon, Todd Melancon, Ryan J. Melancon and Robin E. Melancon Stelly; two great-grandchildren, Lane Patrick Melancon and Baby Stelly (due Summer 2016); one sister, Linda Castex Thibodeaux; two nieces, Melanie Thibodeaux and Michelle Thibodeaux Martin; and great niece and nephew, Katelyn Martin and Kaleb Martin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Malvina Ann “Beanie” Boudreaux Castex; his parents, Clarence and Lena Marie Ducrest Castex; and family friend, Angelia Boudreaux.
A native of Parks, Louisiana, and resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Mr. Castex was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He worked as an Electronics Technician for Sears Roebuck Department store for many years before his retirement. Mr. Castex had a passion for gardening and he loved providing for his family. He also had a soft heart for animals. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers were Mike Stelly, Jason Boudreaux, Stephen Uggen, Mike Thibodeaux, Mark Patin and Clet Lasseigne.
A Rosary was recited on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at 7 p.m. in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN Location.
Visitation wasbe observed on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and continued on Monday from 7 a.m. until time of services.
The family would like to thank the nurses, Doctors and staff at River Oaks Retirement Manor, especially Dr. Louis Glen Mire, and NSI Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and gentle care given to Mr. Castex and his family during their time of need.
