Through good times and bad, “Mary” helped her family and her community make it through with an unshakeable faith in God and the belief that better times were always ahead. From being a “Rosie the Riveter” factory worker helping construct airplanes during World War II, to meeting and marrying the love of her life, Lloyd J. Berard Sr., at the tender age of 19, to devoting herself completely to being a wife and mother for Lloyd and her nine children, to contributing to her extended family as a caregiver and her community by helping on many church functions, fundraisers, and donation drives for those in need, Mary was a great example to all of a life well lived through philanthropy and faith.
Mary also was a “green thumb” gardener and found joy in the simpler pleasures in life – family, friends, and fellowship.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Berard and wife Shirley of Youngsville, Lloyd Berard Jr. and wife Patsy Angelle of Coteau Holmes, Mark Berard and wife Claudette of Loreauville, Stanley Berard and wife Brooke Harlowe of Lock Haven, Penn.; daughters, Mary “Anne” Breaux and husband Russell of Morgan City, Regina Douet and husband Lee of St. Martinville, Reneé Bulliard of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Amy Berard Gaudet of Loreauville; sisters, Mrs. Felix (Lilly) Guidry of Breaux Bridge and Mrs. Lloyd (Elsie) Lasseigne of Breaux Bridge; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
