To walk in the footsteps of Acadian ancestors

DiasporAcadie, a specialized tour operator offering customized Acadian tours of France, Louisiana and Acadie, is booking passengers for an Acadian Tour de France featuring villages where the original Acadians came from and where some where exiled after the Grand Dérangement.
Dates of the tour are June 4-17, 2016.
The 2016 tour will also include participation in the 250th Anniversary celebrations of the arrival of the Acadians at Belle-Île-en-Mer.
The price is $3,495 plus airfare, based on double occupancy.
The group will consist of mostly Acadians from Canada and the United States, many bilingual. Guided tours will be offered in French and English. Or, when only available in French, someone will be there to translate for English-only speakers.
Departure will be from Louisiana with an overnight stay at Charles de Gaule Airport hotel in Paris. On June 5, the tour travels by bus to Poitou, an area is western France that is the homeland of most Acadians. The tour begins with towns that were the Acadians’ ancestral homes before leaving for the New World in the early 1600s.
Also on the tour are towns and villages where the Acadian founding families of Louisiana stayed during their 25 years of exile in France. Altogether, the itinerary takes in four regions, Île-de-France, Poitou, Bretagne (Brittany) and Normandie. In addition to the Acadian focus of the trip, participants will see Paris and some of the most popular tourist attractions of Europe, including le Château de Blois, le Mont Saint Michel, a WWII cemetery, and Notre Dame Cathedral. There will be many special dinners and activities and the group will stay in most hotels for two nights at a time, with ample leisure time to explore individually.
