St. Martinville man pens science-fiction novel

Local author (“From Light to Darkness to Glory,” “Mental Illness God and Healing”) Robert G. “Bobbie” Bienvenu has embarked on a new literary adventure with the launch of “The Time Traveler: Gerard’s Odyssey,” a science-fiction novel.
Set, at least initially, in 1967, protagonist Gerard is the son of a brilliant physicist who invents a time machine with which he intends to travel back to 1919 Germany and nip the emerging phenomenon of Adolph Hitler in the bud, sparing the world of the Holocaust and World War II.
When his father dies prematurely in an auto accident, Gerard and his girlfriend, Susan, take the machine back to the Renaissance, meeting da Vinci and Elizabeth I. They also drop in on George Washington and Olympian Jessie Owens, and wind up in 2015 Hawaii in time to save the world from a disasterous fate worse than even Hitler could have conceived.
“Time Traveler,” available in paperback at Amazon for $16.28, is the first of a trilogy, Bienvenu says.
Bienvenu is a world champion powerlifter and the creator and host of the TV show “Insight Into Mental Health,” which airs on Acadiana Open Channel Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
