St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Rita Jeanne Faulk Bernard Berard, 96, who passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015, in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Visiting hours were observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7 am until 10 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015.
Fr. Michael Sucharski, SVB, officiated at the Funeral Mass. Entombment followed at Queen of Peace Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Rita Jeanne Faulk Bernard Berard, formerly of San Dimas, Cal., was the daughter of William Henry Faulk and Ida Aubry Faulk, born May 6, 1919, in St. Martinville. Rita received her teaching certificate from Grambling College in Ruston, La. and earned her Master’s Degree at Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, Cal. She spent her first 28 years teaching in St. Martin and Iberville Parishes and the next 20 years in the Fontana School District in California where she retired after 48 years of teaching. Rita was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Rita will be greatly missed by her daughter, Inez “Rennie” Howard; her sister, Claire (David) Dunbar; four grandchildren, Sanford, Kieu-Van, Mauria and Kenneth; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Joseph, Jalen, Jousha and Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Henry, Herman, Mazel, Anna Mae, Samuel, Marion and Theresa; and her husbands, George Cornelius Bernard and Joseph Alton Berard.
There will be no re-pass following the service.
Pellerin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
