Genevieve Douet Simon

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted for Mrs. Nicholas Simon, the former Genevieve Douet, 83, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church with Fr. Rusty Richard officiating.
Interment followed at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday with a Rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral home reopened at 8 a.m. on Saturday until the service.
A native and resident of St. Martinville, Mrs. Simon passed away on Wednesday, November 04, 2015, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Simon worked as a janitor and cafeteria server with the St. Martin Parish School Board for 28 years. One of her favorite pastimes was playing at the casino. She would go every time the opportunity presented itself. Ms. Genevieve enjoyed playing cards, especially Bourré. She loved to spend time with her family and was determined to enjoy life to the fullest. Mrs. Simon will be deeply missed by all those who she knew and loved.
She is survived by her three sons, Minos Simon and wife Priscilla of St. Martinville, Rickey Simon and wife Kimberly of Lafayette, and Lonnie Simon and fiancée Tanya Fritz of Lafayette; three daughters, Lucille Simon, Blanche Simon and Mary S. Mitchell, all of St. Martinville; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Enola “Red” Bergeron and husband Calice of St. Martinville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Nicholas Simon; parents, Joseph A. and Blanche Champagne Douet; and four brothers, Roy Douet, Allen Douet, Jim Douet and Louis Douet.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Simon, Rickey Simon, Brock Simon, Nick Simon, Victor Simon, Jeromie Simon and Kane Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearer was Minos Simon.
