Bonjour!
You are rendering a spiritual deed to God when you volunteer of your help for others. Have you ever thought of lending a hand as an act of giving, being a volunteer? It is, especially if it comes from the heart. Because you are helping those who are in need of help. No matter what the favor, or how big or small. And what ever the challenge. There is always someone out there who can use your extra hand. Never begrudge and always feel good about yourself. All these festivals in our towns could not happen if it weren’t for you volunteers. Salute!
My gratitude to Maurice “Parrin” Castania for his deed of help to me recently. His neighbor had a 12- by 12- foot wooden deck to give away. He thought of me possibly being able to use this. Maurice thought the wood was too good to burn and the friend had to get it off his property. I am happy he thought of me and for his offer if I’d take it. Not to worry he’d move it to my property so I grabbed it.
After several months he and Kenneth Sonnier got together and were able to load it up on a trailer making two loads and haul it here. It had to be cut in half with a chain saw because of the size. But they did it. They are from the old school. We’ve been friends since our teen years. They went beyond the call to help on their time and expense doing for me what I could not have done on my own. There are many kind people left in this world. I owe them and their wives a gumbo for sure.
Speaking of volunteers, there are many to be commanded. I got a list of the Catahoula volunteers who worked an entire weekend last month, not only organizing the church fair, but cooking, cleaning, serving, etc. They busted butt to get it done right. Say hey to, Ben and Georgia Courville, Melissa, Parks, Dustin, Ragley, Paul and Kathleen, Moss Bluff, Shannon and Camille, Breaux Bridge, Mercy, Mac and Jessie, Henderson, Debbie Broussard, St. Martinville. And also Shane and Shawn, Cherie, Allen, Jackie and Sue, Mark and Melba, Shirley, Carlene, Kathryn, Jessica, Caroline, Johnny, Tina, all from Catahoula. And they cooked the delicious Oreille de Cochon. Salute!
I might be repeating myself about the weekly Bluegrass gospel music jam in Lafayette of old Hillbilly and Country from the 1940s and 50s. I still hear Hank Williams on the radio. I love ’em all. Singers sing Hank at jams and everywhere. Music is the heart and soul that lives in ours everyday. He touched our hearts with his songs of love and God. Even our young people recognize Hank. If he’d lived longer would our America be turned upside down like she is today?
He was not ashamed to profess his love for his wife Audrey. And he’d take blame himself for their failures. We don’t take the blame for our mistakes, yet when we hear him sing it we place ourselves in his song. That is the man he was. He touched people of every walk of life.
But that jam is more enjoyable to me than can be imagined. When mama pushed me out of her womb and I fell in the midwife’s hands, God planted singing in my soul.
I had a phone conversation with state Rep Mike Huval a few weeks ago. I requested when it will come time to name the road between Grand Point and the levee road, can it be reserved for Agnes “Vielle” Huval. He said yes. You are a good man Mike. Maybe next year you’ll win the crawfish eating contest!
