Dorothy A. Miller

On Friday, February 20, 2015, Dorothy “Dot” Anderson Miller passed away at her home surround by her loving family in Broussard, Louisiana. She was 80 years old.
Dot was born in Opelousas on 24 Sept. 1934. She was the second born daughter of Augustus and Altha Anderson.
In addition to giving a lifetime of selflessly devoting her time to others, she also gave 30 years in the oil and energy industry before retiring. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW, and “Girls State of Louisiana” from 1993-2008 – serving as State President 1998-1999. She was also an active member of Eastern Star, CASA, Council on Aging and LaFemme Voiture 1351, where she also held the office of President 2010-2014.
In addition to helping others, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and most of all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved living deep in the country, fishing, and snoozing with her pets, Meenu, Buddy and Sugar. She will always be remembered for her selfless devotion to God, Country, Community and family, which were the passion and purpose in her life.
She is preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Augustus Anderson; mother, Altha Anderson; daughter, Judith Faye Groff; granddaughter, Jessica Ann Lyons; step-daughter, Christine Guilbeaux; grandson, Shallen Meche, and grandson, Kenneth James Groff Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Willie H. Miller Sr. of Broussard; sons, Kenneth James Groff of Tampa, Fla., and Raymond Joseph (Tara) Albarado II of Pace, Fla.; daughters, Dorothy Lucille (Claude) Sisson of Calhoun, Gale (Dale) Segura of Indian Rock Beach, Fla., and Donna Louise Albarado of San Antonio, Texas, step-son, Willie H. (Dana) Miller Jr. of Breaux Bridge; step-daughter, Janet Lynn Miller of Arnaudville; brothers, Theo H. (Mary) Anderson of Rosepine and Earl Anderson of Toledo Bend; sister, Margaret (Eugene) Daigle of Westlake; 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday. There was a musical tribute by Gene Romero at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Visiting hours continued on Monday at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Funeral Service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015, at Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville.
The Pastoral Staff of the Ascension Episcopal Church officiated the services during the Funeral.
Interment followed at Lafayette Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Hobson, Mark Marionneaux, Steven Lyons, Shawn Guilbeaux, Spencer Miller and Gavin Miller.
Honorary pallbearers were her brothers.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
