Eddie Joseph Cormier

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Eddie Joseph Cormier, 62, who died on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at his residence in Lafayette.
Interment wase in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, was the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services, assisted by Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert. Lectors were Fabienne Naomi Smith, Vivian Godchaux and Payton Godchaux. Giftbearers were Ray Latiolais, Charlene LeBlanc and Alicia Angelle. Musical Selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “Go Light Your Candle,” “Yahweh, Is My Shepherd” and “I Know My Redeemer Lives.”
Survivors include his wife, Giselle Naomi Cormier; two daughters, Tonya C. Godchaux and her husband Jeff, and Jessica C. Foreman and her husband Rocky, all of Lafayette; one son, Casey J. Cormier of Breaux Bridge; five grandchildren, Payton Godchaux, Vivian Godchaux, Molly Grace Godchaux, Matthew Godchaux and Isabelle Foreman; and one brother, Herman J. Cormier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearly Cormier and the former Roseabelle Huval.
Mr. Cormier was a 1975 graduate of USL graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in College of Education. After graduating in 1975 from USL with a B.A. in elementary education, the young teacher “set out to conquer the world with rose-colored glasses which seemed dim compared to the shine in his eyes.” He received his Masters Degree in Administration in 1981 at USL. He was a member of Parish, State and National Associations for Education. Eddie was a member of St. Bernard Home School Association and also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as a co-ordinator of Parish Enrichment, Remediation, Chairman of Breaux Bridge Junior High School Tutoring Program; Chairman of Math Department Self Study Program, and Supervisor of C.E.T.A. Program.
Eddie was voted St. Martin Parish Teacher of the Year and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He was a man who touched many lives as a teacher, coach, principal, and supervisor for 33 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend whose legacy will forever be in the hearts of those he loved. Eddie fought the good fight on this earth and has finally won the race.
Pallbearers were Casey Cormier, Jeff Godchaux, Rocky Foreman, Payton Godchaux, Ron Naomi, Ron Naomi Jr., Kyle Naomi and Herman Cormier. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Munro, Doug Wright, Charlie Giuffrida, L.J. Angelle, Billie Cooper, George Cormier, Tim Brooks, Brandon Breaux and Greg Davis.
Visitation wa observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 2 p.m.
A Rosary was prayed Thursday at 10 a.m. in Martin & Castille Funeral Home by Pat Wright and Margie Giuffrida.
