Beatrice ‘Mom Bea’ D. Babin
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. Beatrice “Mom Bea” was a native of Cypress Island. Mrs. Babin, 98, passed away peacefully to meet her Savior on Friday, November 21, 2014.
Entombment followed at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. Fr. Ed Degeyter officiated at the Funeral Mass. Gift Bearers were Amberose Courville and Sarah Richard. Scriptures were read by Kayla Broussard and Kimberly Ann Richard. Songs were “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” and “On Eagles Wings.”
Visiting hours were observed at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday at 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Mrs. Babin was a farmer’s wife for 30 years. She was an employee at Trappey’s Pepper Factory. Then she joined with her daughter at “Hazel’s Day Care Center” for over ten years. She was a parishioner of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. She had a love and devotion to the Feast of Devine Mercy and the Holy Rosary, and was a lifelong promoter of Central Association of the Blessed Virgin Mary for over 60 years.
Mrs. Babin will be greatly missed by those whom she touched with her strong faith in God. She enjoyed spending time with her family during the holidays and on weekends.
Mrs. Babin was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and Caroline Panthers, and enjoyed playing Bingo.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Hazel B. Courville and her husband Aldus; three sons, Hadley Babin and his wife Geraldine, Alton Babin and his wife Mary Ann, and Clifton E. Babin; two brothers, Dutile Delahoussaye of St. Martinville and Dudley Delahoussaye of Baker; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raoul Joseph Babin; her parents, Alexis and Natalie Landry Delahoussaye; a granddaughter, Christine Babin; five sisters, Lydia Huval, Emily Tauzin, Maydell Landry, Rhena Huval and Hilda Dohmann; and two brothers, Desire “Tit” Delahoussaye and André Delahoussaye.
Pallbearers were Hadley Babin, Alton Babin, Al James Courville, Bryan Babin, Danny Delahoussaye and Gerald “T-Goo” Delahoussaye.
Honorary pallbearers were Aldus Courville, John Babin, Michael Courville and Carrol Delahoussaye.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
