Lionel Joseph Boyer, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 am, on Saturday, October18, 2014, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Lionel Joseph Boyer, Sr., 88, who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at St. Martin Hospital.
Visiting hours were observed from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm on Friday, and continued Saturday from 7:00 am until 9:30 am, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A rosary was recited on Friday evening.
Rev. Nicholas DuPré officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Doris LeBlanc. Gift Bearers were Kim L. Rider and Verline Courville. Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
Mr. Boyer was retired from St. Martin Parish School System, where he worked as a bus driver for many years. He had a passion for farming and enjoyed riding his John Deere lawnmower and maintaining his yard. He loved to go dancing with his wife, Verna.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Verna Breaux Boyer of Breaux Bridge; two sons, Lionel J. Boyer, Jr. (Carla), of Breaux Bridge, and Robert “Bob” Boyer and partner, Darryl Thorp, of Houston, TX; a step-daughter, Gale M. Latiolais of Shreveport; his only grandson, Luke John Boyer of Breaux Bridge, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jean-Baptiste Auriel Boyer and Celine Dauphine Boyer; his first wife, Rhona Cormier Boyer (mother of Lionel, Jr.); four sisters, Alcidie, Eve, Leone Boyer and Lucette B. LeBlanc; and four brothers, Alcee, Luke, Aldus, and Lucere Boyer.
Pallbearers were Luke Boyer, Perry Boyer, Jimmie Boyer, Dannah Blanchard, Dean LeBlanc and Terry Courville.
Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Rider, James Allemond, Sr., Walter Mouton, Wade Robin, Herbert Miller and Lawrence Patin.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of St. Martin Hospital for the compassionate care given to him during his time of need.
