Helen Boudreaux

Bonjour!
Wonderful person and friend journalist Rheta Grimsley Johnson laminated one of my Intune “Boudreaux Beat” magazine columns in 1998 and handed it to me. She is that type of kindness. I wonder how I’d be doing right now if I’d still be writing for them. Reckon I’d have learned the trade yet?
I enjoyed working for Dominic Cross. It gave me a chance to meet and talk with our many Cajun musicians. Of course all our different kinds of music unique. Musicians are endless and wonderful.
I’ve decided to gather a few of my Cajun and Country songs I wrote through the years and possibly record them. I’ll have a few CD’s pressed and as composer of my own original songs I’ll list it on iTunes.
My endless gratitude to Blanche, Tina and Bonnie, for whatever my reason or purpose or occasion, I do not bear it alone. They are beside me. I need them. And I’m speaking on behalf of all parents like me whose kids help us. We need y’all!
Rheta and husband Don (now deceased) loved Cajun Country so much, especially Henderson and the Atchafalaya Basin, they bought a house in Henderson. When Don died a few years ago she moved back to her old home of Iuka, Miss. She still writes her weekly column. To say Rheta will be coming to talk at the Petroleum Club later this month.
This year was the 12th year and growing for the Latin Music Festival at Park International in Lafayette. I watched announcements on local television and it is a very colorful festival. It is a cultural event and children are very involved in the dancing performances. Kind of be aware of it. See there’s more to us than Cajun.
Pooyie! Thanksgiving next month already and after that the Big One! Ou bien ca c’est quele que chose.
Donna Dupont’s mom gave me an old remedy for poison ivy. If you want to write it, mix a small amount oatmeal and milk, cook it down into a small thick paste, add a little sugar, put on gauze and cover the affected skin. Luke from Breaux Bridge Rental said when he walks by a poison ivy bush his prevention from catching the brutal skin rash is that he spits on it and fusses at it.
Ready yourself with lightweight blankets this fall while preparing for the heavier artillery electric blankets soon after when the big winter winds come blowing in. Want to remind adults do not wear squirrel costumes for trick-or-treat night. You all know squirrel hunting season is on. And you know them Cajuns all want to “bag the bigger ones.”
We all passed a good time at the Catahoula Senior Day last Saturday. Will Louviere’s picture is in the Teche News. He played guitar in our band. Did y’all hear my harmony? Coordinator Ida Trautman handed out the envelopes with a little cash for the musicians to help pay for their time and talent and road expenses and included an envelope for Will. I volunteered. Will and his family left a little early headed out to the big festival in Lafayette. But first he returned his envelope to Ida because he said he volunteered. His mom and dad are Russ and Crystal. Thank you everyone and Sally!
Regarder ici! Le vent kicked up a little here Monday night during the stormy winter front that came in. I gotta say that wind blew hard at times. But then people get so scared of those little storms from the news channels. It’s just our weather. I went walk in the woods behind my house this afternoon and noticed downed trees in the yards west of me. Some trees were intertwined into one another like a little twister. Mais sa c’est something.
Dieu vous benir!
