Butte La Rose et Les Entourage
Bonjour!
Last week I wrote about working on our camp but I did not yet tell of my roof and hammer experience. When I was on the roof nailing the tin, I hit a nail and a piece of the hammer head chipped off and went into my leg. A fine line of blood was oozing out on the inside of my leg like I was gonna bleed to death on the roof with no one there to help me. Mais sa fais peur! I look back and laugh at myself.
I managed to come down off the roof, not so scared anymore. I went to the emergency room at Gary Memorial in Breaux Bridge. The x-ray showed the piece was in my leg and the more the doctor tried to dig it out the deeper it went in, till finally he gave up on it. So I still have the chip in my leg unless it has dissolved like the doctor said it might.
But in the meantime and while I was in emergency, my then 8-year-old little girl Tina was at home very upset because she was not able to come with me to the hospital. It’s not every day your mom has to come off the roof with a piece if iron in her bleeding leg. Imagine what went through her mind, because she loves her mom.
So she got a sheet of pink construction paper and on it wrote me a get-well card with lots of heart, emotion and concern while I was away. She cut this paper into ten small pieces measuring one and a half inch each. Imagine what all her thoughts were, putting this together for me. We lived out here in an almost secluded edge of the woods. Still do.
It was late afternoon. Her sisters and brothers were here but mama was not home. Cell phones had not been thought of yet then. And out there somewhere, someone was inventing computers. Only contact with home was through the hospital phones. So she feared the worst not knowing what was happening to her mom. Ma Tina who grew up with the pet name of “Teeny Weeny” was short and always quiet.
Every page of her get-well card had a message. The title of her booklet was “Love always, Tina.” Open tiny booklet to page 1 and the word “ROSE” is written meaning a rose for me because she did not have a real rose to give me. On page 2 she wrote “LOVE,” page 4, “get well soon.” Page 6 “ROSE.” Page 7 “LOVE” Page 8 “sorry what happened.” Page 10 “ROSE.” Page 1 1 “happy when it’s out.” Page 13 “ROSE” Page 14, “LOVE,” 15, “I wish it didn’t happen,” page 16, “ROSE.” And the back of the booklet reads; “LOVE.”
Her sister Bonnie had saved it among her things and recently gave it to me. Ma Tina has no idea I have this little booklet put together with much love by my little girls little fingers. I wanted to share this. She wrote more all dedicated to her mom. Precious! Thank you Honey and love you right back!
Everyone enjoyed the great weather was all perky and feeling good with smiles of proof at the Food For Seniors this week. Boss Fred, Pete, Glenn, Greg and I are dedicated and try to accommodate, helping seniors with difficulties getting in and out of their cars to sign their cards. Deputy Grover and his crew do their share at the pickup line. And, yes, I do have several phone numbers I call ever month for the forgetters.
I say if Parish Government pays for the mosquito spray, get your money back. Come sit on my porch! It’s not working in Butte La Rose!
Merci!
