Y’all come pass a good time, bring the kids and chairs for this great event!
First things first: Thank you, Margaret Jones. I enjoyed every blueberry. Jane Hebert, I wore my pretty black-and-white skirt to my granddaughter’s wedding in New Orleans and I sat on a high stool with my guitar and entertained for the wedding reception. There are too many of you to thank for all for your kindness. Got word 93-year-young Eunice Douet Borel enjoys the Teche News. Merci, Chère! She was there, all smiles, at the church fair in Catahoula Sunday along with her family.
The Butte La Rose Welcome Center had a very successful three days of fun last month for their annual Tourism Week. Drivers running along I-10 stop by and are greeted by our local Cajuns who make it fun every year. This event always is. Delicious food was served to the tourist and locals. Gumbo was cooked by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Posse. Ethyl Menard was there to oversee the chefs and food. Monday’s gumbo was a most delicious treat by the sheriff’s chef. Vendors furnishing the delicious foods were: Pont Breaux’s jambalaya, Little River Inn from New Iberia served different dishes of alligator, also gumbo by the Jefferson Davis Tourist Commissioner. C’est tes tout bon!
Huet and Sandra Borel came by. They’re great supporters coming by every year to greet tourist with their Cajun hospitality. Of course Betty Laviolette, one of the several workers behind the desk, offers answers to every question. And thanks to Van Thompson for helping me carry my equipment. An attention-catcher was Judy and Lynn Sibley from Flora, La. They had on their display hand-carved wood duck samples offering lessons on how it’s done. Beautiful work of art!
Pass it on; www.techetoday.com covers all the St. Martin Parish local town events for Cajun cook-offs like; etouffee, catfish, crackling, okra, pageants, hunting/fishing/school and beaucoup parish wide festivals. That little newspaper is packed with interesting information every week. They write news for those away from home!
Salute! Lindsey Guidry and the Patriotic Butte La Rose Community Committee gang, sponsored by the Butte La Rose Fire Department, are the ones who hang the beautiful American flags all along the Herman Dupuis Road every year about this time preparing for Independence Day on July 4th. They are wonderful!
Georgia Courville said her crew of volunteers prepared 1,200 of their popular delicacy orielles de cochon pastries for the church fair in Catahoula, fried and sold 900 and sold the uncooked rest at half price. Big successful weekend! Say hey to Georgette and Gary Louviere!
My decades-old guitar case is slowly falling apart. My plan was to replace it with a lightweight gig case made of fabric with zipper pockets to put sheet music and guitar picks and such. But Russ, Chrystal and Will Louviere m’achat une pour un cadeau. It is nice and what I wanted. I wanted to pay her for it but she would not hear of it. Many bien mercis! Will plays guitar and sings in St. Rita’s church choir.
I’m always a week or two behind with my column news, but better late than never. I don’t mind if you don’t. Vielle Femme fusses at me and thinks I talk too much anyway. C’est la vie! Have you told your mom you love her lately?
