St. Martinville municipal election Saturday

St. Martinville – Polls are open Saturday to vote for mayor and three of the five members of the City Council.

Candidate for St. Martinville mayor are the incumbent, Thomas Nelson, Bernard J. Mitchell Jr., an administrator in the St. Martin Sheriff’s Office, and Melinda “Mel” Narcisse-Mitchell, a former state worker.

In District 3, incumbent Dennis Paul Williams is being challenged by retired educator Winfield Ledet.

The incumbent in District 4, Debra Landry, appointed to replace the late Ronald Charles. Landry, faces Mary Martha Pierre, Richard B. Simon Sr., and former SMPD Assistant Chief Nary Smith Sr.

And in District 5, incumbent Arthur Champ Jr. goes against the previous incumbent, Romanus “Ike” Robertson.

If a runoff is necessary in District 4, it will be h eld Saturday, May 3.

Two councilmen, Mike Fuselier of District 1 and Craig Prosper of District 2, are unopposed.
