Three charged in death of Richard Hanson

The St. Martin Sheriff’s Office has charged two Carencro men and a Breaux Bridge woman in the death of Richard Hanson, 68, of Butte LaRose. Hanson was found in his home deceased shortly after 6 p.m. on Sept. 27 by a neighbor in Butte LaRose.
Gary Brackett, 28, of Carencro and Jamie Lee Smith, 35, of Breaux Bridge were being held on charges of unauthorized use of a movable in connection with the case.
Brackett has now been charged with first degree murder. Smith is currently charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Travis Toups, 39, of Carencro is charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder. Brackett and Toups are currently being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center awaiting extradition. Smith is being held in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
No bond has been set in the cases.
