Special election set to fill SMCC’s District 5 seat

St. Martinville – Qualifying for a special election to fill the District 5 seat on the St. Martinville City Council will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
Clerk of Court Becky P. Patin said candidates may qualify during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 11 through Friday, Jan. 13 at her office in the Courthouse Annex, 415 St. Martin Street.
The qualifying fee is $150 for Democrat or Republican candidates and $75 for all others and must be paid in cash or money order, no personal checks accepted.
The special election is set for Saturday, March 25.
The seat to be filled was formerly held by Romanus “Ike” Robertson, who died last August. His widow, Margaret Robertson, was appointed in his place until this special election could be held.
