DISTRICT CHAMPS — The Breaux Bridged Lady Tigers claimed the District 2-II volleyball championship by going undefeated in six league games. SM, BB in v’ball playoffs

Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville both earned berths in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association volleyball playoffs that get underway this week.
The LHSAA released its playoff brackets over the weekend, with St. Martinville (23-15, 6-2) seeded No. 8 in Division III and Breaux Bridge (16-13, 6-0) at the No. 14 spot in Division II.
Coach Laurie Simon’s BB Lady Tigers notched their fourth straight District 2-II championship by sweeping all six of its league matches, closing out their district run with a 3-0 victory over Opelousas on Oct. 25.
But The Bridge went 0-2 to close out regular season play, falling to Acadiana (3-2) and Sam Houston (3-0) on Wednesday and Thursday.
Coach Lucinda Mason’s SM Lady Tigers closed out their District 4-III run by edging Northside 3-2 on Oct. 25. The Lady Tigers faced a talented field in a weekend tournament hosted by ESA and emerged with a 2-3 tourney worksheet, falling to Notre Dame, St. Joseph Academy and ESA while topping Catholic of New Iberia and Sam Houston.
The ’Ville’s only district losses were to No. 1 seeded Teurlings Catholic.

Playoff picture
St. Martinville drew a first round bye in the Division III playoffs and will face the winner of the No. 9 Northside-No. 24 Loranger first round match up on Thursday in St. Martinville. Coach Mason said if fellow District 4-III member advances the match will start at 6 p.m. But if SM’s opponent is Loranger, the start time might be pushed up.
Should the Lady Tigers win, they would advance to the quarterfinals against the winner of the No. 1 Teurlings-No. 16 Springfield/No. 17 West Feliciana match up.
In the Division II bracket, No. 14 Breaux Bridge will host No. 19 Helen Cox tonight (Wednesday) at home in a match set for 5 p.m.
Should the Lady Tigers win, they will advance to the second round against No. 3 St. Scholastica of Covington.
