Residential construction up a bit across parish
While the number of permits for new homes dropped a bit across the parish, the cost of the units showed a slight increase during the months of September and October.
In rural areas of the parish the number of new homes permits issued slipped from 28 in July-August to 19 for September-October, but the value of the homes increased from $14.8 million to $16.3 million.
And the city of St. Martinville reported a jump in residential activity, mostly from post-flood construction and repairs. While only one mobile home permit was issued in July-August, September-October saw one new home and a number of renovations valued at almost $400,000.
Rural commercial activity slipped a bit, falling from $1.7 million to $1.4 million for the comparable two-month reporting periods.
The two largest commercial ventures in rural St. Martin during September and October were a new chiller building for the Cade Community Center ($334,374) and a new Family Dollar Store on Grand Point Hwy ($353,967).
Commercial permits issued in Breaux Bridge increased slightly, from $164,282 to $216,277, primarily on the basis of a new Edward Jones office under construction on Lakes Boulevard valued at $133,573.
The breakdown of permits issued by Parish Government in rural areas and by the municipalities of Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville during September and October 2016 are listed below.
