D’Albor no longer seeks police chief’s job in St. Martinville
Jennings Police Chief Todd D’Albor announced last week that he is no longer interested in applying for the chief’s job in St. Martinville.
The St. Martinville native and former assistant chief for the city was named interim chief by the council last October when Chief Calder “Pop” Hebert submitted his resignation.
At the time D’Albor had indicated an interest in returning home due to his father’s serious illness.
But the council’s actions went awry when they realized that the city already had a list of applicants who had taken the civil service exam in 2015 and D’Albor wasn’t on it.
The interim appointment was canceled and Hebert agreed to stay on until the issue could be sorted out.
Since that time D’Albor has had a change of heart and prefers to remain with the Jennings department, which is about three times larger than the SMPD. He also cited his father’s improved health and an outpouring of support from the Jennings community, where he has served for the past six years. During his tenure, Jennings has been designated the “safest city in Louisiana.”
Last week Hebert reiterated his intention to resign and go into private business and urged the administration to quickly find a replacement for him.
The city’s application list for the chief’s job has four qualified candidates, including local Officer Lance Laviolette, two Franklin policemen and one from Lake Charles. The mayor and council will begin the process of evaluating the applicants.
