Guy Cormier appointed to state Water Resources Commission

St. Martin Parish President Guy Cormier was appointed Friday by Gov. Bobby Jindal to the state Water Resources Commission.

Cormier, who is currently third vice president of the Police Jury Association of Louisiana, will serve as a representative of the association on the 19-member commission.

It’s the role of the commission to approve or reject orders of the commissioner of conservation placing restrictions on water wells when petitioned to do so by the owner of the affected well. The commission is also charged with developing a statewide ground water resource management program and reviewing the contingency plan developed by the commissioner of conservation to respond to a ground water emergency.

Jindal appointed two other members of the commission on Friday: James E. Cramond of Belle Chasse, representing the Louisiana River Pilots’ Association; and David B. Culpepper of New Orleans, CEO of NanoFex, which specializes in groundwater remediation. Culpepper will serve as an expert in ground water resource management.
