St. Martin School Board approves $6.5 million in projects

The St. Martin School Board last week removed nearly $1 million for athletics projects at Breaux Bridge and Cecilia high schools before approving approximately $6.5 million in other jobs funded by 2009 and 2013 bond issues.
Stricken from the list was the approval of $500,000 for Breaux Bridge and $400,000 for Cecilia from remaining 2009 bond funds allocated for Phase 2 Athletic Priorities.
In place of the Cecilia authorization, the board opted to spend $197,570 on baseball and softball fields at Cecilia High.
Projects approved included:
•$317,500, plus add-ons as needed totaling another $35,016, for a new roof at the Early Learning Center. CAMPO, L.L.C., was low bidder.
•$4,120,000 for new classrooms at Breaux Bridge Primary. Low bidder was J.F. Juge Construction.
•$48,800 for electrical upgrades at Breaux Bridge Primary, with Dykes Electric getting the job.
The Breaux Bridge Elementary campus is essentially being relocated from its current site on West Bridge Street to the Breaux Bridge Primary campus bordered by East Bridge and St. Charles streets.
•$1,384,000 for a new classroom building at Breaux Bridge Junior High, E.L. Habetz the low bidder. This item was initially defeated but passed on a subsequent vote.
